KoinEd is delighted to welcome our two most recent Associate Scholars

Koinonia Educational was founded with a clear mandate: to bring together established academics, practitioners, and decision-makers working in and around education who share a passion for a values-driven approach.

Koinonia Educational is delighted to welcome our new Associate Scholars, Dr Caroline Healy and Dr Kevin Flint.

Dr Caroline Healy joins us from St Mary’s University, Twickenham. A great pleasure to have Caroline on board and benefit from her considerable, and values-driven expertise.

Dr Kevin Flint is a distinguished educational philosopher, prolific author, and former Reader in Education whose career has made a lasting contribution to higher education and professional doctorate studies. Over four decades, he has established himself as a leading thinker in the application of continental philosophy — particularly Heidegger and Derrida — to educational practice and qualitative research methodology.

Dr Flint holds a Doctor of Education from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (2003), a Master of Education from the University of Sheffield, and a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from UMIST — a combination that reflects the scientific rigour and philosophical depth characteristic of his scholarship. At Nottingham Trent University (2005–2017), he rose to Reader in Education and led the Professional Doctorate Programme across three faculties. He served as Visiting Professor at Stord/Haugesund University College, Norway, and as Chief External Examiner for EdD programmes at Exeter, Teesside, and Sussex universities. His international reach extended further through a practice research network co-established with Professor Carol Costley at Middlesex University, encompassing partners in London and Hong Kong.

Dr Flint is the author of Rethinking Practice, Research and Education: A Philosophical Inquiry (Bloomsbury, 2015) and co-author of Rethinking the Education Improvement Agenda (Continuum, 2012). He has published widely in journals including Educational Philosophy and Theory, Cultural Studies – Critical Methodologies, and the Journal of Work-based Learning, and has delivered keynote addresses across the UK, Europe, China, Australia, and North America. His expertise spans philosophical deconstruction of professional practice, qualitative research methodology, and the theory and governance of professional doctorates. In retirement, Dr Flint continues to write and brings the full depth of his experience to his role as a Koinonia Associate Scholar.
